Neutrik’s opticalCON fibre optic connector system helped leading Swiss broadcast service provider tpc Switzerland provide connectivity to last year’s Tour de Suisse, the world’s fourth largest cycle race.

For the Tour de Suisse, some of the outdoor broadcast conditions included temperatures in excess of 30 degrees, as well as driving rain and snow.

“The opticalCON fibre optic connector system was subjected to an extreme stress test during the Tour de Suisse,” said Martin Sturzenegger, the man responsible for the technical specification of tpc’s OB vehicle.

To provide technical flexibility during the tour, he came up with a technique of siting a hub at a strategically advantageous point, to assemble the signals transmitted from the various locations and save on cable runs. He carried out several test runs before deciding to use the opticalCON MTP24 lightweight 24-channel mobile field cable, for the single cable run between the broadcasting van and the assembly point.

“For me, that was the most important cable in the production of the Tour de Suisse, because we only had this one cable from the hub to the broadcasting van,” he added.

Seven production vehicles covered the Tour de Suisse and had to be taken to a new end stage for each of the nine days, brought into full working order and then dismantled again. Every day around 4.5km of cable was unrolled.

The opticalCON MTP cable connector has a robust metal casing, while its spherical dust cover protects the fibre optics from dirt. The precise fit of the push-pull connector modules enables easy use of the opticalCON fibre optic connector system, something Neutrik product manager Fabio Röllin describes as “one of our core competences”.

The opticalCON MTP24 worked perfectly throughout the Tour de Suisse, suffered no damage and required no cleaning, according to Sturzenegger.

Klark Teknik has announced that its 1176-KT FET-style compressor, which marks homage to the classic 1176LN model, is now shipping.

The 1176-KT has a modernised and discrete signal path utilising custom-engineered MIDAS input and output transformers.

With an easy to operate user interface, the compressor offers three ratios: 4:1 for moderate compression; 8:1 for severe compression: 12:1 for mild limiting; and 20:1 for hard limiting. Additionally, ‘All-button’ mode is included for aggressive vocals and especially effective when applied to drums, bass, guitar and room microphones.

An attack knob adjusts the time it takes for the compressor to respond to audio that exceeds the threshold. To accompany this, a release knob adjusts how long the compressor remains engaged after incoming audio falls below the threshold. Similarly to the attack knob, the release knob response time is faster when clockwise and slower when counter-clockwise.

An illuminated vintage-style VU meter keeps the 1176-KT in style with the original Klark Teknik processor, applying visual confirmation of gain reduction and output level based on which meter button is selected.

The 1176-KT comes in a 2U steel rack mount enclosure for live touring. Neutrik XLR connectors ensure reliable audio connection while a universal power supply with auto-voltage sensing is included for worldwide usability.

It is available at a suggested list price of $689.99.

FBT has revealed its new modular Vertus CS1000 compact line array, designed to offer a ‘no-compromise choice’ for live performers and installers.

The system can be deployed on stage within minutes, making it ideal for performers, or taking advantage of its discreteness, can be integrated into the most sophisticated locations.

A bi-amplified design, the Vertus CS1000 comprises a long excursion 12” bass reflex subwoofer and a passive mounted satellite, linked via a Neutrik SPEAKON connector, equipped with six full-range neodymium 3” drivers. Onboard the subwoofer is a Class-D, two channel amplifier, complete with switch-mode power supply, delivering 600W RMS to the subwoofer and 400W RMS to the satellite, both of which are housed in birch plywood enclosures.

For ease of use, a storage compartment is provided within the subwoofer enclosure to securely house both the satellite speaker and its supplied mounting pole for storage and transport. A dedicated locking system holds all of the equipment in place.

As with all FBT products, ease of use is exemplified by a novel mounting pole arrangement. Comprising three sections, the pole allows users to alter the height of the satellite to suit their requirements, while a custom joint provides continuous vertical adjustment to ensure precise coverage in every venue. The slim proportions of the satellite facilitates a wide horizontal dispersion of 110°, while the precision placement of the six 3” drivers to form a J-array creates a vertical dispersion of 30° (+10° / -20°).

If more power is required, two of the systems can be deployed in a dual configuration to form a much more powerful option. By stacking the two subwoofers and locking the two satellites together end-to-end (via optional hardware), the maximum SPL of the overall system is raised by 6dB. Coverage is also extended – although the horizontal dispersion remains consistent, vertical dispersion increases to 40° (+20° / -20°).

Weighing 25.9 kg, the Vertus CS1000 delivers 129dB continuous across 40Hz-20kHz and comes with a built-in DSP offering eight presets. Control panel features include master volume, presets, satellite volume, HPF, and LED status.

The FBT Vertus CS1000 is available immediately.

Neutrik unveils XIRIUM PRO https://audiomediainternational.com/neutrik-unveils-xirium-pro/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=neutrik-unveils-xirium-pro Wed, 06 Jan 2016 10:37:00 +0000 http://audiomediainternational.com/2016/01/06/neutrik-unveils-xirium-pro/ Cable replacement system uses DiWA technology to deliver ’tremendous’ versatility, ease of operation, and FCC licence-free audio.

The post Neutrik unveils XIRIUM PRO appeared first on Audio Media International.

]]>

Neutrik has revealed its XIRIUM PRO wireless digital audio system, a cable replacement system designed to provide audio signals to and from devices without long or complicated cable runs.

According to Neutrik, XIRIUM PRO delivers studio quality, full bandwidth audio with extremely low latency that is free of any compression or companion. Thanks to DiWA (Digital Wireless Audio) technology, the system offers audio professionals ‘tremendous’ versatility, ease of operation, and FCC licence-free audio, suited to a myriad of live sound applications ranging from concert and theatrical performance to worship and presentation/conference use.

XIRIUM PRO is a modular system that enables maximum flexibility of signal type, with both input and output modules available for analogue, AES and Dante. The system facilitates the transmission of all three audio formats with transmission distance ‘cable replacement length’ of greater than half a mile (>1 Km line-of-sight). The system works with mixed signal types, including analogue TX (transmission) to AES RX (receive), Dante TX to analogue RX, and so forth, providing RF output of up to two Watts when used with a high-gain antenna.

Flexibility is a key attribute of the XIRIUM PRO, with its configurations supporting as many as ten discrete channels of audio via five transmission units. On the receiving side, the wireless digital audio system supports an unlimited number of receivers. As long as a receiver can ‘see’ the transmitter’s signal, audio engineers can use as many receivers as necessary for their project. Additionally, a repeater module is available that converts any receiver module into a repeater unit.

Peter Milbery, president of Neutrik USA, commented on the company’s new system: “XIRIUM PRO offers convenience and capability for audio engineers working in a wide range of environments. Engineers, artists, and project designers can now think beyond the physical limitations of the traditional audio cable. Sound equipment such as loudspeakers, amplifiers, and mixing consoles can now be positioned for optimal audio performance and what makes the most acoustic sense – allowing artistry and sonic performance to take priority over venue logistics.”

Neutrik’s XIRIUM PRO Wireless Digital Audio System is expected to be available during the first quarter of 2016.
