Shure re-emphasised its focus on the theatre audience by unveiling the new campaign – “This Is The Moment” – along with other activities at the ABTT show in London yesterday.

Shure has developed the campaign to celebrate the behind-the-scenes efforts that make theatre productions possible.

Shure products have been used in some of the biggest theatre performances on stage including West End shows, Harry Potter, who use Axient Digital, including the ADX1M micro bodypack transmitter and War Horse, also using Axient Digital. Other touring shows including Shrek, Les Miserables, Book of Mormon and Waitresses are all using the Axient Digital wireless system to provide clear and precise audio.

The campaign includes a website dedicated to large and small theatres which features:

– Testimonials and Case Studies: The site provides examples of how theatres have overcome production challenges with the use of Shure equipment – hearing directly from actors/actresses, sound designers, directors and members of the technical team.

– Audio Tips and Techniques: Shure experts and others in the theatre industry provide tips for how to maximise audio performance. For example, James Savage, head of sound at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre co-presents a webinar on “Microphone Techniques for Theatrical Productions.” There is also a new Theatre Audio Guide that can be downloaded from the site.

– Product Overviews: Visitors will be able to find out what audio equipment might work best for them with the interactive section of the website that helps spec the ideal products.

The site also includes an interactive section that helps spec the ideal products. It includes overviews on products such as TwinPlex, Axient Digital wireless systems, the ADX1M Micro Bodypack Transmitter, and Wireless Workbench 6, which allows users to remotely monitor and manage every piece of gear connected to the system without interrupting the production.

Additional resources will be added to the website regularly for customers to help navigate the latest in audio technology for theatre.

At ABTT, Shure worked with their brand partner, Signature Brew, a local London craft brewer, that used SM58 microphones as tap handles to provide drinks for the “This Is The Moment” campaign launch.

Sennheiser is set to return to this year’s ABTT with a raft of products, including its smallest ever bodypack transmitter, the new SK 6212.

Held at Alexandra Palace on the 5th and 6th of June, ABTT is the UK’s only trade show dedicated to the country’s burgeoning theatre market and Sennheiser will be showing off its theatre focussed ranges, including the full Digital 6000 Series, the MKE and HSP families and the new IE 40 PRO, IE 400 PRO and IE 500 PRO in-ear monitoring headphones.

Part of the Digital 6000 Series is Sennheiser’s ultra-compact SK 6212 bodypack transmitter, which is compatible with both Digital 6000 and Digital 9000 systems. The SK 6212 has found instant favour with the UK productions of Come From Away at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End and the touring production of The Bodyguard, both of which have benefited greatly from its size and battery life.

Sennheiser’s ranges of headworn, neckworn and clip-on microphones from the MKE and HSP families will also be on show. The MKE1 is Sennheiser’s smallest professional clip-on mic, which delivers a full, natural sound, high speech intelligibility in a very sweat-resistant package courtesy of its protective membrane. The MKE 2 is a subminiature omni-directional clip-on lavalier microphone that fulfils the highest demands on sound quality and ruggedness and is sweat protected by a special ultralight Umbrella Diaphragm.

The MKE Essential Omni (omnidirectional) meanwhile is designed for demanding everyday use on live stages. The newly developed KE 4 capsule is derived from the Broadway standard MKE 2, with improvements that provide a warm and distortion-free signal, even at high sound pressure levels. The HSP2 is a high-quality condenser omni-directional neckband mic for vocal and speech applications that is individually adjustable and comes with a patented sweat-protected diaphragm. Components are easily interchangeable and combinable thanks to the HSP2’s modular design.

The final Series in Sennheiser’s theatre arsenal is the brand-new IE PRO Series, which includes the IE 40 PRO, IE 400 PRO and IE 500 PRO.

The entry-level IE 40 PRO is the first in this brand-new series of professional in-ear monitors. The latest additions to the family are the IE 400 PRO and IE 500 PRO, both offering natural, high-resolution sound, a secure and comfortable fit that comes close to custom-moulded in-ears and a break-proof, patent-pending cable connection.

Sennheiser will be showing this comprehensive range of theatre solutions on Stand O2 at ABTT, with Sennheiser partners Blitz and Autograph Sales & Installations also showing a number of Sennheiser solutions on their stands, including Digital 6000 Series with the SK 6212 bodypack.

Following its UK launch at PLASA Focus Leeds, EM Acoustics will showcase HALO-B at the ABTT Theatre Show in London’s Alexandra Palace next week on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th of June.

The third system in the HALO family is a medium format, 110° horizontal dispersion line array for indoor and outdoor sound reinforcement. As its name suggests, HALO-B sits between HALO-A and HALO-C in both physical size and overall system output. The system is ideally suited to live performance applications in theatres, concert halls and other performance venues.

HALO-B is a two-way reflex-loaded medium format line array element featuring a patent-pending proprietary HF emulation manifold which combines the energy of four 1-inch compression drivers into a plane-wave array. These are flanked by two 8-inch LF drivers in an optimally tuned, lightweight, ported enclosure. The bi-amplified design results in only a single crossover point, which in turn translates into reduced amplifier channel count and more efficient use of amplifier power.

Continuity of voicing is preserved across the entire HALO series, enabling HALO-B’s use as a companion system to either the large format HALO-A, or the compact HALO-C systems in addition to stand-alone main PA applications. HALO-B is matched with the ST-215 flyable dual 15-inch subwoofer and packaged with Dante-enabled DQ Series amplifiers or the flagship DQRack.

“HALO-B has surpassed our expectations,” said EM Acoustics operations director, Mike Wheeler. “The high frequency manifold technology that we developed for HALO-A performs even better than we expected in its scaled-down HALO-B implementation, and it’s an ideal size for so many applications, either on its own or accompanying something else – we feel HALO-B will be a really useful tool for rental companies looking for maximum ROI, and of course it’s also a great choice for fixed installation into performance venues of all types.”

For further information and/or a demo please visit www.emacoustics.co.uk or come and see the team on stand C1 at ABTT in Alexandra Palace next week.
