‘A guitar god and a beautiful soul’: Tributes pour in for Eddie Van Halen

Some of the biggest names from across the music world have been paying tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen, who has died at the age of 65 after a long battle with throat cancer.

News of Van Halen’s death was confirmed on Tuesday (October 6) by his family. He died in hospital in Santa Monica with his family by his side.

Founder of the legendary rock band Van Halen, he, along with his brother Alex on drums, bassist Michael Anthony and singer David Lee Roth, achieved huge international success. Their single ‘Jump’ became one of the most iconic singles of all time, with the album it featured on 1984 selling around 10 million copies in the US alone.

He also famously played lead guitar on Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’.

Tributes from across the music industry began to pour in immediately on social media, with the likes of Gene Simmons, Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Nikki Sixx, Billy Idol, Tony Iommi, Garbage, Lenny Kravits, Joan Armatrading, Pearl Jam, Brian Wilson, Bryan Adams and many other taking to Twitter to pay their respects.
