Audio platform Roon has massively expanded its audio ecosystem, with ‘Roon Ready’ certifications having increased tenfold since the start of the pandemic. 

Roon is a music management, discovery and streaming platform that works with everything from network streamers, DACs and wireless speakers to all-in-one systems, and A/V receivers.

In 2020, just a handful of new audio products were certified to work with Roon every month, while more than 100 Roon Ready and Roon Tested devices have already been announced in 2021.

Roon Ready-certified devices are those that have Roon’s hi-res streaming RAAT technology built in while Roon Tested refers to those devices where optimum audio can’t be guaranteed but where they have been tested to ensure that work at their best with Roon software. 

The platform now works with nearly 200 audio brands, including – Bowers & Wilkins, Denon, Devialet, KEF, Harman, McIntosh, and Naim Audio – and also supports over a thousand individual products.

Among the brands that have most recently submitted products for certification are Arcam, Astell & Kern, Cambridge Audio, and JBL.

Support for Sonos, AirPlay, and Google Cast streaming devices – as well as USB and HDMI receivers and DACs – means that Roon is designed to get the best out of pretty much any audio device. 

Roon also offers support for high-res PCM, DSD and MQA digital audio file formats. With Apple’s recent announcements on lossless streaming boosting interest in high-quality audio, Roon is well placed to support this, described its makers as “the largest and highest-performance ecosystem for listening to high resolution music on the widest range of audio equipment.”

Like most audio platforms, Roon offers a free trial. After that it costs $9.99 a month when billed annually, or $12.99 a month when billed monthly. And if you have the cash to spare, $699.99 will get you lifetime membership.
